How many teams do we anticipate for the 2020-21 season?
The Developmental program is made up of players from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Players must pass a learn to skate program. Players that play 8U will be placed on the cross ice mite team. We have had 2 teams at this level the past few years. We expect to have one 10U team and one 12U team. These teams all play an independent schedule. We also plan on a Middle School, JV and Varsity teams that will play in the PIHL league.
Where and when do we practice?
We practice at our home rink, Baierl Ice Complex, 103 Marshall Drive, Warrendale, PA. Our practice ice slots are select Tuesday and Thursday from 4-5:20 p.m. and Sunday 6-7:20 p.m. The Developmental program game slots are Saturday from 7-8 p.m. The Tuesday slots are ear marked for the PIHL teams.
What are the costs for each team and what does it include?
Our mite and squirts programs will practice together. The mite program will be provided 2 home game slots and will participate in reciprocating away games plus 2-3 practices a month for $500.
Squirts will be provided 5 home game slots with reciprocating away games plus 2-3 practices per month for $550.
These teams will practice from September to February with additional ice in March if available.
Pee Wee and Middle School will practice together. The Pee Wee program will play an independent schedule consisting of 6 home and 6 away games plus 3-5 practices a month for $600-800. Middle School will play in the PIHL league and have 14 games plus the 3-5 practices a month for $1200-1400.
Varsity and JV will practice together, both teams will be playing in the PIHL league with 3-5 practices a month. Varsity will have 18-20 games for $1600-1800 and JV will play 16 games for $1400-1600
Playoff fees are included for the PIHL teams.
These teams will practice from August to March.
Are uniforms included in the price?
No, the developmental program is required to have a team jersey and matching socks. The fee will be ~$40-50. At the beginning of the season, your manager will handle ordering any jerseys and you will need to provide 3 number choices. For the PIHL teams, the player is required to have an Away/Home game jersey that costs ~$100 each, plus socks through K&B Outfitters in Ambridge. NOTE: Varsity is required by PIHL that you must match from Helmet to shells. Shells will be provided by the club.
All players must wear a mouth guard and neck guard.
Are there try outs?
No, however, we do evaluate each player and try to place them with like skilled players in the developmental program. Per PIHL rules, if you are a co-op team, meaning you have other schools playing on your team, you are not allowed to hold tryouts. Under unique circumstances if a team has more than 12 players from one school then the team must declare to be PURE, per PIHL rues and the club can have try outs for that particular team.
Can we raise funds to defray the cost of the program?
Yes, new for this season, we have started a Booster Club. There will be opportunities to volunteer at S&T Bank Music Arena, we will run 2 raffles where the players will be required to sell 10 tickets at $10 and for every ticket you sell 50% will go toward your player fees. The player can choose to sell more putting the additional proceeds toward your fees. We also will have a few individual sales and an opportunity to sell ads for the Senior program, website and banner which will also help off set fees. The Booster Club will also be in charge of fundraising for the club too. We plan to run 50/50 and spirit wear at each home game, football pools, A Night at the Races, A Comedy Club Fundraiser, Paint and Sips and many more fun activities.
I would like to volunteer; how can I help?
We have grown significantly and are always looking for talented people to help behind the scenes and of course, knowledgeable coaches to help on the ice. If you are interested please go to our Coaches Corner for details on clearances and certifications that must be turned in prior to the season. We are in search of the following helpers: board members from the Developmental program and the HS program, A treasurer for the Booster Club, and penalty box workers are just a few. We always are looking for helpers to help plan the preseason pool party, the end of the year party, and help with social events during the season. We love new ideas for fundraising and help the social media crew we have to disseminate information about game results and upcoming events.
Who are the coaches?
In the Developmental program, we have wonderful volunteers. Each volunteer has passed a background screening process and has gone to USA Hockey certified classes to coach their particular age specific team. Head Coach for the mite team is Brian Behan, Squirt Head Coach is Mike Ursta and Pee Wee Head Coach is Randy Bevan. At the PIHL level we have paid, non parent coaches. Varsity Coach is Steve Guest, JV Head Coach is Stephen Laschon and Middle School Head Coach is Scott Purcell.
